About Me
Hi! I’m Sydney! I’m an author.
I’m an Aries. A few of my favorite things are rainy days, noise-cancelling headphones, and Thai food. I love hiking, gardening, and listening to Hozier. I have two cats named Merlin and Ophelia and I would paint my entire house green if I could.
Since before I can remember, I’ve been enamored by storytelling. Whether it was my Dad telling tales around a campfire, my Mom reading Frog and Toad to me before bed, or the first moment I picked up a Magic Tree House book, there was something truly magical there. Authors and Illustrators were my gods, and my greatest dream was and is to become one of them; from scribbling in notebooks with Disney princesses on the covers, to typing the final words into a document with hundreds of pages, I feel closer to that dream every day.
My main character, Rinnoway, was born out of my child self; I began writing about her when I was eleven years old or so. I loved running fast and being strong. I loved having a sharp tongue and a sharp wit, and I thought everyone else loved this about me, too. It took me a while to learn that this wasn’t true, and I was expected to behave a certain way - to be quiet, to sit still, to have reasonable ambitions, and to handle injustices with grace and gentleness. It was surprising to learn that many of the things I adored about my young self were not acceptable, and depressing to force myself to adapt to this image of what I was supposed to be, though it didn’t feel right. All of this is true for Rinnoway, too. She is fierce, wild, and almost delusionally ambitious, and her story truly begins the moment she decides she doesn’t want to hold those parts of herself back anymore. This first book shows her journey toward finding her true destiny - a warrior; strong-willed, loud, forcible, and most of all deserving of her rage and the violence it will take to satisfy it. I hope my readers, who recognize this character within themselves, will find some healing in Rinnoway’s story, as I have in creating her - and sending her off to battle.
Call Me Keeper is a project I’ve spent countless hours and several years finishing, and is now in the process of being published with Amazon KDP, releasing on November 16, 2024. I am beyond grateful to everyone who has helped me with this accomplishment, whether it was simply encouraging me, or reading along with every chapter as I wrote its first draft.
